Open office s my choice. Used it for quite sometime & have no complaints.
When I was a computer design person 15 years ago it was Adobe PageMaker and QuarkXPress. Mac 10 for sale cheap. They are still around so they might be worth looking at.
I will sometimes use Open Office, which is a great alternative to Office completely.
